I left the Pink Palace <br />the other day. <br />What <br />did I see... <br />Rocky the squirrel <br />and all her friends. <br />They were playing and <br />having lots of fun. <br />So I crossed <br />the invisible bridge. <br />It's a path that only goes <br />one way. <br />Then I sat beneath <br />the big pine tree. <br />It's so big that <br />it touches the sky. <br />A sky that was <br />bluer than any <br />sky I'd seen before. <br />I sat on the crimson throne <br />beneath the <br />big <br />big <br />pine tree. <br />Then watched as the squirrels <br />danced their life away. <br />They took of <br />their tails... <br />and whirled <br />them about. <br />When suddenly sounds <br />burst forth. <br />Like no sound, I've heard before. <br />So I jumped off the <br />crimson throne. <br />Spun around to see <br />what was causing <br />such a glorious ruckus. <br />And to my surprise <br />what did I see. <br />There were chipmunks <br />lined up in military precision. <br />They jumped up and down. <br />Then saluted each other. <br />The next thing to happen... <br />was hard to believe. <br />These chipmunks <br />well they started to sing. <br />That song that they sung <br />though I heard it before <br />was a song <br />I could not <br />remember. <br />For it was <br />none other than the forgotten tune. <br />Just as I thought, <br />I'd witnessed all <br />to see. <br />Raccoons in grass skirts. <br />Riding hornless unicorns. <br />Well they suddenly appeared. <br />They joined with <br />the chipmunks <br />in sweet harmony. <br />Then a great flock of birds <br />in the big pine tree. <br />They burst into the sky. <br />It was time <br />for their fun to begin. <br />They started to sing <br />an old melody. <br />My next surprise <br />was what <br />was happening to me. <br />My feet started tapping <br />in time with the beat <br />then with energy <br />I didn't know I had. <br />I began to dance <br />and sing along.<br /><br />Ismael Rodriguez<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/dances-with-squirrels/
