Everything is asleep <br />except for the moon and ocean <br /> <br />who all night <br />wander restless <br /> <br />asking the eternal questions <br /> <br />of which there are <br />no answers <br />that definite. <br /> <br />The grass dozes <br />dreams of worms <br /> <br />tunneling through its unconsciousness. <br /> <br />The trees nod <br />and dream they are awake <br />although they sleep soundly. <br /> <br />The houses are fast asleep <br />as are their inhabitants. <br /> <br />Everything is made <br />of sleep. <br /> <br />The mountains snore loudly. <br /> <br />Clouds sleepwalk across the sky. <br /> <br />The world gazes <br />into outer space <br /> <br />half afraid <br /> <br />until morning surprises it <br />with the gift of dawn. <br /> <br />The mountain yawns <br />stretches itself to its full height <br /> <br />looks about <br />and sees <br /> <br />that everything is how <br />it should be. <br /> <br />The day gets on with its self.<br /><br />Dónall Dempsey<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/sleepies/
