Dear God, <br />I've never believed in you <br />and no one can change it <br />so why am I writing to you <br />when I don't even think you exist? <br />I don't know <br />but all I know is <br />if you are there <br />you created an amazing world <br />but why so much pain? <br />why so much suffering? <br />is it necessary? <br />is there even a reason? <br />and do you ever get lonely? <br />I don't think many people even go to heaven these days <br />they're either cheating or lying <br />killing or complaining, hurting or crying <br />it all makes me wonder <br />did you mean for it to be this way? <br />did you want people to be hungry? <br />did you want forests to be cut down? <br />did you want airplanes to crash into buildings purposely? <br />did you want us to fight and kill? <br />or get AIDS? <br />or send missiles? <br />or die of cancer? <br />or be judged because we're different? <br />God, if you wanted to create something, <br />then why would you let it be destroyed? <br />I'm sorry, but I wonder why every day <br />millions of people worship you <br />when we don't know... <br />when we don't know anything <br />do you know why we don't know anything? <br />because we can't even see what we're doing to ourselves <br />so why believe in you? <br />we don't know <br />and now it's too late <br />and there's too much pain in the world <br />to ever find out if you exist <br />I know you won't answer me <br />you never answer anyone <br />but maybe you're listening <br />and maybe you can change things a little <br />maybe not for me <br />but maybe for a child soldier in Africa <br />maybe for a homeless man in New York City <br />maybe for a deer in Oregon <br />maybe for a poor farmer in California <br />maybe for a starving artist in Paris <br />maybe for anyone, anywhere in the world <br />you would change something <br />maybe for a rock in a stream <br />or for a falling leaf in the autumn breeze <br />or for a pencil that's never been used <br />for anything, living or not <br />you would change something <br />and maybe you won't even try <br />but I will.<br /><br />Jade Leven<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/letter-to-god-6/
