Great caverns formed by Natures hand <br /> transformed into a wonderland <br />When man provides electric light <br />highlighting every stalagmite <br />and stalagtite for our delight. <br /> <br />Stray chips of quartz reflecting back. <br /> Pin points of light against the black <br />dark shadowed rocky walls. Like eyes <br /> their colours take you by surprise <br /> they coruscate like fireflies. <br /> <br />This beauty had been seldom seen <br />except by potholers who are keen <br /> to tread where no one trod before <br />Pioneers who choose to explore <br />the hidden depths which they adore. <br /> <br />The hardy men who found the way <br /> to wonders we can view today. <br />They had to crawl we walk upright <br />their way was dark but we have light. <br /> Revealing wonders to our sight. <br /> <br />I wonder why Dame nature hid <br />these caverns in the way she did <br /> and if we were intended to <br /> follow up each subtle clue. <br />A task which very few could do. <br /> <br />Although wild creatures knew the way. <br />The bats which shun the light of day <br /> have roosted here for centuries. <br />They come and go just as they please <br />by hidden ways that no man sees. <br /> <br />18-Mar-08<br /><br />ivor or ivor.e hogg<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/beneath-our-feet/
