I dread a blank page
An undisturbed lake that swirls below
Rich activity and yet none of it surfaces
It stays invisible, I can't get to it
Oh how frustrating.

An inkling, a nibbling, in the dark of my mind
Catch it! It grows, it solidifies
I throw it - it punctures the water like a rock
Ripples, evolution, life is here!

Suddenly there's too much to record
And still it expands and the page is too small
And my hand is flying the water is drying
A pile of rocks has emerged

Progress and purpose is evident
No longer this unstable untamable body
I've almost gained complete control
Yet stuck I am on this awkward phrase -
it fails to rhyme

This island I've built it cannot drown
But if abandoned, it will grow no larger
I'm tempted to flee and forget the power
Remember the materials and use them later

These homeless ideas will lie stagnant until
Another lake, I'll find. And that lovely day
Will be one for leftover scraps and gems
Mixed together and molded like clay

The ocean will be calm under my hands
Layer upon layer of words will rise high
And stretch out to form new and wonderful lands -
All of this from my once blinded eye!

Jessica Jemima

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/i-dread-a-blank-page/
