Dawn creaks open, <br />splitting sky <br />with painful slowness; <br />sun sears the clouds, <br />all candyfloss, <br />to wisps <br />that cling, <br />burst bubbles, <br />on the cheeks of heaven. <br />Mixed metaphors abound <br />on moon day mornings; <br />week end endings, <br />week beginnings <br />as we struggle <br />from the haze of dreams, <br />of sex, of alcoholic stupor, <br />to shape the armour <br />we will wear today <br />to hide our fragile hearts, <br />to face the monsters <br />now demanding <br />our attention. <br />Work and Duty <br />call us through <br />a tangled maze of tunnels <br />hurling soot and noise; <br />bind us up <br />in metal capsules <br />rushing through the air <br />or on the ground <br />like woodlice <br />when you lift a leaf <br />in nature's humming world. <br />Breathe in, breathe out, <br />the fragile heart <br />beats faster, <br />eyes clear <br />to see the wonder <br />of a sunbeam <br />gleaming on the wingtip <br />of a bird, edge of a leaf, <br />the jawline of a son <br />or daughter, incarnate <br />beauty everywhere <br />just shadowed <br />by the uncompleted blink <br />as we move <br />from night to day, <br />from rest and play <br />to the tasks <br />that we decide <br />to shoulder on our journey.<br /><br />Midnight Clarity<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/dawn-creaks-open/
