Tonight they painted sunset
with a lavish hand
splashing red across the blue
to make a lavender so deep
the sea was jealous
shining greenly in the half light
spilled from the rushing sun
as he headed to his early
morning rendezvous
around the corner of the world.
Trees sulked in silhouette,
their colour gone as light
retreated, dragging day
behind it dropping little sparkles
soon diminished, on its way.
I paused to watch
a gleaming wavelet as
it stroked the sand,
smoothing all the furrows
of the day to nothing
as I used to stroke your forehead
just before I kissed you,
prelude to the night

Midnight Clarity

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/yet-another-sunset/
