Locked in chains of silence <br />So heavy hard and cold <br />Each link a deadly secret <br />Which still remains untold <br /> <br />Each secret full of feelings <br />Being hurt, deceived, rejected <br />Being betrayed, manipulated <br />Feeling small, dejected <br /> <br />She locked herself within those chains <br />She made each fatal link <br />Melting, bending, welding <br />No time for her to think <br /> <br />What this work would soon create <br />How her masterpiece would look <br />When she unveiled it to the world <br />And hung it on its hook <br /> <br />But although at first, the links were soft <br />And easy to get around <br />In time they became hard <br />And chained her to the ground <br /> <br />She no longer had the power <br />To manipulate their shape <br />She couldn’t make them listen <br />They sealed her mouth with tape <br /> <br />And she lay there in her silence <br />Her sorrow and her pain <br />Her hope that someone somewhere <br />Would come remove her chain <br /> <br />Set her free from all her fears <br />Pull her out of that dark place <br />Pull back the darkness she knew so well <br />And uncover her true face.<br /><br />Elinor Auerbach<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/trapped-56/
