As each tear dropp slides down <br />The window pane gently <br />She stares out onto the street <br />He promised to be back for her <br />That was over a year ago <br />All her letters to him come back <br />'Return to sender - addressee unknown' <br /> <br />Any attempt to telephone him <br />Meets with very much the same fate <br />The service provider promptly replies <br />'This telephone number does not exist ' <br />All kinds of thoughts cross her mind <br />Is he dead or has he found another <br />Woman with whom to share his life <br /> <br />She posts an advertisement and a photo <br />In the Missing Persons newpaper column <br />Yet there is no response from any quarter <br />The police tell her that they are too busy <br />With more heinous crimes to solve <br />They see no purpose in getting involved <br />In what looks too much like a lovers' tiff <br /> <br />She becomes even more paranoid <br />Appointing a detective to help her find <br />The love of her life who has disappeared <br />But this man too draws a blank as she <br />Cannot provide any details of his family <br />So his whereabouts she will never know <br />Until he himself surfaces to tell the tale!<br /><br />Sandra Martyres<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/return-to-sender-addressee-unknown/
