Why am I so surprised <br />By kindness <br /> <br />You know that kind that doesn’t ask for anything from you <br />Like the one that says you do this for me <br />I will do this for you kind of kindness <br /> <br />Yet I am amazed by it <br />Perhaps because it doesn’t happen very often and when it does <br />It is like wow, <br />What, <br />Why <br /> <br />I wonder if I could be like that <br />Just be kind <br />With no expectation of it in return <br /> <br />Wake up with my own moral compass <br />Not bothered by the presumption of what others will do <br />For me in return <br />If I <br />Am kind <br />To you <br />Will you be to me <br /> <br />I pray <br />Let me follow my inner voice <br />The one that understands <br />That we all want <br />This awareness <br />This careful thoughtfulness of <br />Another human being <br />Without regard for what is in it for me <br /> <br />Just human kindness for all<br /><br />Linda Engwall<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/human-kindness/
