I strolled beside the water's edge <br />The sea a ghostly grey, <br />The cloud hung like a veil of mist <br />That drew across the bay. <br /> <br />My saddened heart beat like the waves <br />Upon that restless sea, <br />As I walked on that windswept shore <br />As lonely as could be. <br /> <br />My mind was filled with questions <br />Formed by wells of deep despair, <br />A broken soul no place to go <br />Yet found no answers there. <br /> <br />I walked until the tide did turn <br />And hid the prints I'd made, <br />Upon the sand, I paused awhile <br />And watched my footmarks fade. <br /> <br />As they were lost I felt the cold <br />As evening slipped away, <br />As there I stood and stared upon <br />The sea of ghostly grey. <br /> <br />2011<br /><br />ANDREW BLAKEMORE<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/footmarks-in-the-sand/
