How swift in life we break the rules
When love for Christ grows cold
We play with time and act like fools
Though time’s more rare than gold

With Christ, a thief hung on a tree
Humbly he turned to say
Lord on Your throne remember me
Who dies with You today

“For you this day is not the end
Your faith has set you free
In Paradise with me my friend
My glory you will see”

Today that thief is with his Lord
He has a brand new name
He knew that he could ill afford
To perish still in shame

Yet some believe there’s always time
Departure’s far away
They fail to see that that’s their crime!
That death could call today

This world has much they yet desire
Absorbed in all her fares
Unafraid of eternal fire
They gorge on Satan’s wares

The thief should open wide their eyes
His words should make them turn
But gluttons to the devil’s lies
In hell will surely burn

If Christ today should call to come
There’s no more time to wait
Or we may find we’ve been so dumb
We’ve left it far too late…

Michael P.
