A good favour done for me I readily can recall
I'd left my workbag on ground by door way at the Patch Hall
Which contained arcosteel flask which keep water hot for tea
And sandwich box that meant so very much to me.

Four k's from Selby to walk in the rain seems far
And when you are stuck you know who your friends are
And Big Dave said I will drive you in my van
A favour done for me I owe the man.

I offered him some money but he shook his head said nay
I feel happy for to help you and don't mention the word pay
You needed your bag and flask and lunch box and no big deal anyway
And I too might need a favour you might help me out one day.

I had left my bag by the Patch Hall and to walk in the rain too far
And in such a situation you will find who your friends are
And Big Dave came to my rescue drove me in his motor van
And he did me a big favour and for that I owe the man.

Francis Duggan

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/i-owe-the-man/
