You woke with a tear that rolled down your cheek,
As I opened my eyes, I just caught a peek
of you trying to cover it, not wanting to show
your sadness at parting. I know; I know.
And we talked and we hugged and we smiled at the day,
wanting to hold on; wanting to play,
but no time, for again, fate has taken a hand,
set you to work as I leave this hot land
to generate money that both of us need,
to start our new life; to plant our new seed.
As you bathed in warm water and we talked in the morn
I sensed your mood; your feeling forlorn,
but sadness is not what either should feel,
the happiness shared, and our love being sealed.
Those are the feelings that keep us in touch,
that and the fact that I love you so much.
As I write these few words so inadequate too,
my mind and my heart are focussed on you
somewhere in Africa, driving alone,
perhaps feeling sad, watching your phone,
hoping for a message or maybe a word,
both you shall have, and when you have heard,
how my heart and my soul are affected by you,
perhaps you’ll feel happy and forget to feel blue.
I love you. I love you. Again you shall hear
I love you; I’ll say it again until it is seared
into your mind, your soul and your heart,
and that way you see, we’re never apart.
The time will pass, perhaps slowly at first,
just remember first absence, and what from it was burst.
Keep safe for me darling. Keep well and take care
Til I return, very soon, to love you and share.

Frank Ian Bowen

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/parting-s-so-hard/
