Drawing swords without reason
Swearing aimlessly without result
Inventing fear to sell comfort
Ignoring truth to buy comfort
Something is missed
Failing to recognize our flaw but knowing it’s there
We manufacture delight,
Via shopping malls and dashboard hula dancers
Contentment bought in brands and bulk
We write new riddles,
To forget ones we can’t solve
Spiral notebook fortresses
Out of sight, out of mind, out of ink
We sketch elaborate blueprints,
With shiny steel and bright bulbs
Bold
Pretentious
And in perpetual style
When actuality charges our sandbag sanctuaries and foxhole houses
Plowmen need the work
But if it catches us,
We draw our swords
And start swearing

The fan blade chases the fan blade
And like a masochist, restless and bored
I can’t stop poking at it

Adam Holmes

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/a-long-way-to-nowhere/
