The mind's a whirlwind sometimes, <br />bringing things to its front when their place is in back <br />and I'm so busy now-a-days, <br />with this job and that job <br />and worries and fears <br />and bills. <br /> <br />I forgot to call my sister back. <br />It's been over a week <br />and I know she's home with my two-month-old nephew, <br />who I've met only twice, <br />but I'm busier than a honey-bee, <br />except not too much honey to show. <br /> <br />I got the package you sent to me, friend, <br />(weeks ago now) <br />and I've been meaning to write, <br />But it slips my mind and comes up at the most <br />inconvenient of times. <br /> <br />The mind sometimes pushes to the back, <br />things that should be smack in the front - <br />the top of the to-do list. <br /> <br />So, friend, here is my apology for not getting in touch sooner, <br />I assure you, I meant to, <br />but my mind these days seems to be <br />continuously preoccupied with <br />'remember to water the roses', <br />which would be fine, I suppose, <br />except I have no rose garden. <br /> <br />(Dedicated to Suzanne, a dear friend whom I wish I would have brought to front of mind sooner.)<br /><br />Amanda Lukas<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/remember-the-roses/
