I was asleep when I heard the strange noise <br />Getting up I went to look <br />I felt like I didn’t have much choice <br />But in my boots I shook <br /> <br />I came from my parent’s room <br />I knock soft <br />It was my mother in all her gloom <br />I knew I should have coughed <br /> <br />With one withering look <br />I knew I made a mistake <br />Because one step to far over the boundaries I took <br />For she couldn’t hide her ache <br /> <br />I wanted to comfort her <br />Let her know I was hurting too <br />But I knew she only wanted her sir <br />So I waited till she went to bed after she drank away her blues <br /> <br />And I snuck into her room <br />To whisper “I miss him too” <br />She rolled over and mumbled “my groom” <br />So I left to deal with my own pain that grew<br /><br />Payyton Egerstaffer<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/my-mother-in-all-her-gloom/
