I pass you in the hall and smile.
But its a different kind of smile.
Instead of hoping you'll smile back,
I smile because I'm stronger,
and hoping I can get over you.
I smile because I have hope,
I smile not because I want you back,
I smile because I don't need you.
Don't get me wrong,
you're a great friend,
and maybe you won't even know of this secret battle,
but God has made me strong.
I pass you now and look up,
not put my head down and pretend
the i wasn't 'heart broken.'
Thank you for the times we had,
but I broke it off for a reason and
you're happy now, witch is all I could ask for.
I smile and a piece of my heart doesn't
break off and shatter. My heart is still intact,
and I'm focusing on more important things.
Farewell, maybe we could work on our friendship,
so I smile and continue walking down the hall.

Jessica Elizondo

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/a-different-smile/
