Tears fall from my eyes and roll away with a set of crashing waves; <br />My heart is pounding as my feet bury themselves in the sand. <br />Apologies are on the tip of my tongue, but I am afraid... <br />This time around, I am confident I did nothing wrong. <br />You say you want to go, I feel no need to show you the door- <br />Before, I wouldn't have given up, just kept fighting... <br /> <br />The moon is bright as ever, remember kissing under the stars? <br />Oh no, I can feel myself falling back into the trap of love; <br />I get up and shake the sand off of me, start to walk... <br />Thoughts are running through my mind, I count the stars- <br />I close my eyes and wish on 11: 11 for the umpteenth time, <br />Do you remember the time when we were so alive, do you? <br /> <br />My mind runs through months and months of memories, <br />A whisper in the wind tells me this is for the best, <br />I am happy to say, I will always be here but for now- <br />We have to take different paths, there is no going back. <br />One last tear falls from my left eye, I let it fall into the ocean- <br />That lonely tear and the love we shared roll out with the waves.<br /><br />Rivers O'Donahue<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-waves-roll-away-with-our-love/
