*Events in this poem are not true incidents.* <br /> <br />Is it worth it? <br /> <br />Up until <br />The wee hours of the morning <br />Poring over notes and textbooks <br />Writing on and on brainlessly - <br />Sleep can be <br />Ever so tantalizing... <br /> <br />Back in this pit void of life, <br />Going through the same tired movements <br />The monotonous drone of mindless chatter <br />Perpetually drilling a hole in my head. <br />Giddy with the false obsessive energy <br />That's the only thing <br />Keeping the blood pumping <br />Through these crippled veins - <br /> <br />Are those stars I see? <br /> <br />They dance about whimsically, <br />Mocking my weakness. <br />My legs - cannot support their burden - <br />My arms - are numb and lifeless - <br />And suddenly, <br />The ground gives way <br />Beneath my very feet, <br />As gravity plunges me into <br />An infinite hole of darkness. <br />Even the stars have winked out. <br />Nothing lives. <br />Nothing breathes. <br /> <br />Does it matter anyhow?<br /><br />Leslie Ching<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/seeing-stars-3/
