Isn't it funny when I hardly knew you how easy words just came <br />Never knew the person just the face and name <br />Poems and songs I wrote about you for so long <br />How could my opinion of you have been so wrong. <br />To me you had no flaws were perfect as could be <br />Your attractive looks was what inspired me. <br />'Cause I could sit and write for hours about the guy I thought I knew <br />Funny how things changed after running into you. <br />Finally getting to know the man behind the face <br />Made that inspiration somehow just erase. <br />I guess nobody's perfect and I placed you way too high <br />Up upon a pedestal what a fool was I. <br />With good looks on the outside you lacked so much within <br />And writing now about you where do I begin. <br />It only took a moment it only took a night <br />For me to open up my eyes and finally see the light. <br />Maybe I am lucky we met up in the bar <br />And you explained about yourself that night in the car. <br />'Cause the guy I thought I wrote about the guy I thought I missed <br />Who I met back in high school never did exist. <br />A figment of my imagination inspired me to write <br />About a person who I thought could bring me such delight. <br />But that was just impossible our meeting wasn't fate <br />I found that out in June one night in a parking lot real late. <br />Weird how first impressions somehow make you start <br />Having thoughts and feelings about someone in your heart. <br />Never really knowing what that person's all about <br />Until one night by chance you finally figure out. <br />I guess thats what happened when I looked into your eyes <br />And said goodbye the last time I began to realize <br />That my heart and mind created someone out of you <br />Who in the end turned out to be just <br />'A Guy I Never Knew.'<br /><br />Sherri Vogel<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/a-guy-i-never-knew/
