There are dark timeless wonders that hide in earthen bogs <br />Preserving ancient people whose ways died in time's fogs <br />The eyes and sharp expression of victims in a cult <br />Look out in staring wonder as unseen gods exult <br /> <br />Once blond, a pair of tresses is braided carefully <br />As if a girl had knotted them only yesterday <br />Rough linen cloths and bodkins are still preserved in peat <br />Along with hand-shaped earrings, a bright and cunning treat <br /> <br />When walking on the cool earth of a forgotten glen <br />I think about the people who lived and suffered then <br />I amble by the peat fields where past with present meets <br />And trust that it is fitting to step with gentle feet.<br /><br />Liilia Talts Morrison<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/bog-thoughts/
