Pegasus soars through the heavens <br />freed from the strength of Hercules. <br />dragons swoop by in curiosity <br />but never halt their fiery dance <br />as the phoenix leads their ballet <br />across the sky. Mermaids swim <br />and splash above them, as soft <br />as the light from the first star <br />to shine its radiance in the sky. Or as <br />sweet as the air, the lover's whisper <br />to the falling day, so soft and sweet <br />that no droplet leaves their darkening pool. <br />Yet Pegasus veers away from their sparkling waves <br />and follows the night to where the black watchdog lies <br />as he stretches and howls to his shadowy pack, <br />who streak the land to greet him. <br />And so Pegasus flies on his silent flight <br />till he fades behind the stars and the breath of night <br />daring me to follow his darkening delight. <br />Yet I, to this earthly prison am bound <br />to forever be but Shadow's shadow on the ground.<br /><br />Emma Vander Dussen<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/follow-the-night-2/
