The night comes around at last. <br />The stars shine like luminous diamonds. <br />My heart swells and falls like a sea. <br />The two feelings urge yet repel me. <br />I stare at my mirror seemingly for eons. <br />My dress drags behind me as if I'm a magnificent queen, <br />Across the eeriely silent cobblestone streets. <br />I stand alone beneath a lamp post and, <br />I merely wait and pray. <br />Thankfully yet unfortunately, I needn't wait long. <br />My heart quickens like a hare. <br />My pores begin to weep in, <br />Fear and absolute uncertainty. <br />Since he is a gentleman, he bestows a kiss. <br />An odd smile graces my face. <br />His facade is deceivingly calm and lovely. <br />A lovely prince in the guise of a devious devil. <br />A lovely devil in the guise of a devious prince. <br />On the outside, a charming, poetic angel. <br />On the inside, a cold, calculating snake. <br />The subtle, sullen smile gives, <br />Off false and deadly impressions. <br />Sweet words soothe me into a sense of security. <br />In my love and interest I am blinded. <br />At the back of my mind, I am ready to flee. <br />But I wonder if my life will soon be, <br />Extinguished like the candles at our dinner table...<br /><br />Lauren Kapusta<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/date-with-a-devil/
