Rhyme and rhythm, <br />Rhythm and rhyme, <br />Meter and measure, <br />And keeping time. <br />These are all the things we do <br />To make a poem seem to chime. <br />But we don’t know that the message is <br />What makes it sound so refined. <br />You can rhyme, <br />Chime, <br />Dime, <br />Time, <br />Climb, <br />Whine, <br />Fine, <br />Wine, <br />Sign, <br />And define! <br />But if it don’t make sense <br />You’ll sound dense, <br />Like you don’t understand the difference <br />Between sense <br />And cents. <br />Rhyming words and assonance <br />Can hardly seem to come from whence <br />The deepest thoughts and truths dwell, hence <br />We must be careful my poet friends <br />Not to sound to sound too ignorant <br />Just so the rhyme will be content. <br />We have to stand up for our words! <br />Let them be heard! <br />This ain’t free verse! <br />We can rhyme, <br />Chime, <br />Dime, <br />Time, <br />Climb, <br />Whine, <br />Fine, <br />Wine, <br />Sign, <br />But we make sure we refine, <br />Because when we sign <br />Our name on the dotted line <br />Where it says poet, <br />We show it, <br />And you’ll know it. <br />Because you’ll hear our message, <br />Not just our words.<br /><br />Travis Snell<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/rhyme-and-reason-4/
