Spot has
red
and blue
and yellow
and green
spots
on his cuddly little body
and black floppy ears
and a black bobble-nose
and bobble-eyes.

He sits on my lazy susan
to the left of my computer
and his legs are splayed
with his feet just reaching
over the edge of its circumference
and he would wag his tail
if he could.

His job is to give me permission
to clean my computer screens
with his soft beige tummy,
but his and my delights
are for him to be Spot
on my desk
and to share my ups
and console my downs
and to listen to me
chattering to him
and to Benji-dog and Cleo-cat
and what he loves most of all
is my telling him
what a lovely
little doggy
he is
and that Mommy has written
a poem
about him.

(9 October 2012)

Diana van den Berg

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/spot-3/
