AWAY WITH THE DAWN <br />If only I knew what was happening <br />Maybe I could conform <br />Maybe I could rise from former ashes <br />Of numerous former selves <br />To a new being. <br />But I don’t understand, <br />I’m not sure I ever did <br />And it’s been so many years. <br /> <br />If the dark wasn’t so all encompassing <br />If I knew which way was north <br />Which way was up and away <br />From this land of shadows <br />Perhaps I would fly <br />But my wings are broken <br />Too far to fix <br />And I am not a genius. <br /> <br />If there wasn’t so much time <br />Long hours, long nights <br />With the sudden sunrise <br />Glaring out the scarlet day in fear. <br />If I could see beyond the boundaries of time and time and time <br />And through to space <br />Maybe I would not be trapped <br />But I am, and I can’t get out. <br /> <br />If I hadn’t trapped myself, where would I be? <br />Some happier being with no notion of reality <br />I sat down on Halloween and decided to cry. <br />Life is too long, death too far away <br />And there are too many choices. <br />I want to get up <br />Walk far away into the dark of the woods <br />And fade away with the dawn. <br /> <br />That dawn never comes.<br /><br />Tallie Pascoe<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/away-with-the-dawn/
