She lies under the starry sky, <br />And closes her eyes tight. <br />Trying to fight back her tears. <br />It takes all her might. <br /> <br />There was a time when she was happy. <br />She would bask in the radiance of the sun. <br />For her, life wasn’t about tears, scars or death. <br />Life defined symphony and fun. <br /> <br />But then what happened, <br />That took her smile away? <br />Life’s music stopped playing. <br />She stopped to sway. <br /> <br />She had met someone, <br />Whom she thought to be her soul mate. <br />Someone to make the sky clearer. <br />The biggest change, handed by fate. <br /> <br />She treasured and cherished him. <br />He showered his love upon her. <br />Her life began to play the sweetest serenade. <br />Her heart began to flounder. <br /> <br />He saved her from the slumps of sorrows. <br />Carried her in his arms. <br />Protected her from the world. <br />Sheltered her from any harm. <br /> <br />She knew all along, <br />That his love was fake. <br />Her friends tried to want her. <br />Told her it was a mistake. <br /> <br />But she was blinded by his love. <br />Deafened by his sound. <br />Her world was all about him. <br />To her, there was no one else around. <br /> <br />Then one day, <br />Her dreams collapsed in front of her eyes. <br />When she could finally see the truth. <br />Could see past his lies. <br /> <br />She cried at his feet. <br />Held his hand as she smothered. <br />He did not turn around. <br />He did not even bother. <br /> <br />She realized her instincts were true. <br />He was not sincere. <br />Her eyes brimming with tears. <br />Her heart broken beyond repair. <br /> <br />He slid his fingers out of her hand. <br />She sat and watched him go. <br />Tears burned her eyes. <br />Only today, she would let them flow. <br /> <br />Since then she keeps her emotions, <br />Locked in a glass jar. <br />Never lets anyone come close. <br />Stays aloof…stays far. <br /> <br />It seems so long ago when she used to be happy. <br />Now she basks in this nothingness. <br />For her, life is about tears, scars and death. <br />Now, life defines…darkness.<br /><br />Ridah Ellahi<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/life-defines-darkness/
