We realize we want them, <br />Can't feel our life without them, <br />But who knows how to keep them, <br />Fresh and sweet as when they're new? <br /> <br />Like butterflies that flutter <br />To different flowers that glitter, <br />Though we try not to fritter, <br />Still they vanish like the dew! <br /> <br />A child can young souls tether <br />Help them face stormy weather, <br />But floating like a feather, <br />Drift their unchained emotions. <br /> <br />Pairs childless have more freedom, <br />When no one really needs them, <br />But still with all their wisdom, <br />They face uncharted oceans. <br /> <br />Our passions for life bind us, <br />Intimidate and blind us, <br />Though we're shy to make a fuss, <br />There is nothing else we know. <br /> <br />We stumble without vision. <br />Think love is our decision, <br />While skeptics with precision, <br />Obfuscate pretentious show. <br /> <br />With life always a pickle, <br />And feelings more than fickle, <br />We view death's looming sickle <br />Even hope for its relief. <br /> <br />As life tumultuous grows, <br />We change feelings like our clothes, <br />But fear stretching to our toes <br />Suggests life is only grief.<br /><br />Brian Johnston<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/feelings-are-a-mixed-bag/
