I put in a job application,
And I was forced to do it online.
When I was young we did it in person,
So the employer could tell we were fine!

I’d get dressed up in a shirt and tie
And sometimes I’d wear my best suit!
I would polish my shoes to a very high shine,
That’s right, they looked at your shoes!

If you could impress an employer,
Then their customers believed in you too.
Is that simply asking way too much
For others to feel good with you?

I don’t think progress is such a great thing,
Though computers have changed all our lives.
But social sites to me are just gossiping,
And a tremendous waste of my time!

You can size up the measure of a woman or man,
When you’re looking them straight in the eye!
The whole world has grabbed onto networking.
I call it a very big crime!

Just look at our youth, faces buried in games
Of electronics made in sterile labs.
No children playing in streets or yards.
The tears in my eyes means I’m sad!

Robert Edgar Burns

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-application-2/
