A cool crisp breeze wafts the nighttime Spring air <br />I am taken to a place where you cared <br />Of our life and love and staying with me <br />Never once a thought of being set free <br /> <br />A year has passed since I last heard your voice <br />Dear, I realize that has been my choice <br />But, how can I hear the voice that used to <br />Bring affectionate thoughts, thought to be true <br /> <br />Oh, sweetheart, I miss it on nights like these <br />Where stars sparkle above a cool night's breeze <br />Or on nights where the grey pallid displays <br />Or when it rains or snows or, nigh, always <br /> <br />But, especially so, on nights like these <br />Thoughts of you prosper with unwelcomed ease <br /> <br />And, I wonder if you e'er think of me <br />How great our lives, together, used to be <br />About the nights we sat beneath those stars <br />And looked for Jupiter, Venus and Mars <br /> <br />But, alas, I have my doubts that you do <br />As another man is now courting you <br />And what use is it to have thoughts of me <br />When your life still remains as it should be <br /> <br />So, I suppose I'll sit and think of you <br />With eyes of green contrasting skies of blue <br />Even if you ne'er spare a thought for me <br />Thinking of you in our spot is where I'll be <br /> <br />So, my dear if you're e'er back up this way <br />You'll know where I'll be most every day <br /> <br />((April 4th,2009))<br /><br />Danny Speicher<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/on-nights-like-these/
