The bird, desperately
hurls itself at its
cage. Its wings,
frail from misuses,
beat feebly and almost in vain.
But the bars hold,
solid as steel, a silver
container that
glints in the sun,
as though to
remind the little
bird of the freedom
just beyond the bars.

Danielle Martens

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-bird-and-the-cage/
