Today I just had
That Happy Feeling
That glowing, bubbling
Happy Feeling
I don’t really know why
Or how
Or where it came from
I just knew it was there
Bursting forth
In the form of endless
Smiles and erupting
Giggles
Laughing at the littlest things
Untamable shaking leg
And that smile super-glued to my face
It might be because
I got a few tests back today
With A’s splattered on the front in vibrant red ink
Or it might be that funny little sixth sense
Of mine when I know something is gonna
Happen
I really don’t know
My friends kinda stare at me
Wondering, “What’s up with her? ”
But I just laughed myself
Silly
When I dropped my pencil
Or said a word wrong
Even when on particular friend
Said I was being really annoying
That almost
Almost
Ruined That Happy Feeling
My smile fell a bit
I kinda stopped jumping
But then
I tripped and fell
On that slippery grass
And burst out
In an avalanche of
Unstoppable giggles
And That Happy Feeling
Was pulled out of the
Drowning waters
And was brought back
To life by my clumsiness
And she just rolled her eyes
And mumbled something I just
Really didn’t care about
As I laughed my damn head off
I don’t know why
But today I just had
That Happy Feeling

Shannon Hughes

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/that-happy-feeling/
