Two dear hearts like they planned <br />Met under the clock <br />At the grand Hampton Beach casino. <br />It was around the twilight hour <br />In summer on the boulevard <br />Long, long ago. <br /> <br />This glistening night boulevard <br />By the ocean <br />Its own dreamy wishes still shares. <br />Taffy kisses, the colors of rainbows, <br />Get unwrapped <br />And adorn the dark sea air. <br /> <br />Fairy pink cotton candy and more <br />Sold for children <br />Some who had tans from the sun. <br />In the candy store window <br />Starry blue dreams <br />For everyone, too, sweetly were spun. <br /> <br />Today a rose petal sky <br />Fell asleep close to dusk <br />Above soft diamond sands. <br />Bright memories are lovingly made <br />When happy people <br />Walk about holding hands. <br /> <br />The Ocean House Hotel <br />With an open, treasured porch <br />Along the corner sidewalk <br />Once stood and golden folks <br />Listened from there to concerts <br />On the seashell stage and talked. <br /> <br />Sometimes cherished thoughts <br />That were tucked away dance to light <br />Like they happened yesterday. <br />Now new bands play on just as in the past <br />And shimmery fireworks sparkle <br />Then fade. <br /> <br />So while wondrous stars <br />In heaven shine afar <br />With old songs budding dreams could unfold. <br />On the boulevard love spills over <br />Forever and ever <br />And all ages stroll!<br /><br />Gayle Sweeney<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/love-on-the-boulevard/
