A shadow crossed the moonlight <br />And painted half my face <br />Then cut my silhouette in two <br />I stood a different race <br /> <br />A line shot down my middle <br />That sawed my thoughts in two <br />I moved one eye from left to right <br />And ask it ‘who are you’ <br /> <br />It spoke no words <br />But ran astray, pulling me along <br />Toward my demise with each new step <br />Knowing it was strong <br /> <br />I fought against this hell bent strength <br />As deeper down it pulled <br />Dragging toward an unknown depth <br />This soul of mine it ruled <br /> <br />I prayed to God to hear me <br />But only heard a laugh <br />A wicked sneer pulled at my lips <br />I felt this Satan’s wrath <br /> <br />With one chance left to save myself <br />From what I know is me <br />I’ll tie a stone about my neck <br />And leap into the sea. <br /> <br />© JVD 1987<br /><br />Jane Van Doe<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/split-10/
