There was something about her doll-like face, <br />That reminded him, he was a man. <br />And the delicate shape of her little mouth <br />Made him look back again and again. <br />He felt that she needed a rescuer; <br />She needed to be loved for her self- <br />Not to be noticed just once in a while, <br />And then set back high on a shelf. <br />He opened the door and went inside, <br />And eloquently plead his case. <br />His listeners just laughed at his words <br />And alternately seemed, amazed. <br />He finally left, embarrassed and sad, <br />That no one seemed to hear. <br />In fact, he could almost swear <br />They thought he was so queer. <br />At midnight he returned to the scene, <br />Slipped gloves on, and mask, and then <br />He broke the glass, and rescued his lady, <br />To spend the rest of her days with him. <br />She was stiff and she was cold; <br />But he knew time was on his side- <br />He knew if he just loved enough <br />This mannequin would be his bride.<br /><br />Patti Masterman<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-lover-14/
