Guns blow, bombs shatter, hearts break.
The dark night sky is bleak and opaque, the ache of my heart is simply too much too take.
There's no time to think before we pull the trigger, no matter what we figure.
Strange noises fill my ears, so many noises of fear and fury, it’s enough to make you insane.
I try to count the wounded bodies through the chaos
When will the sun come up?
When will this madness stop?
I need it to stop.

The clouds break to reveal a single shimmering star, lit beneath a blanket of velvety pure black,
I remind myself that the star is the same, in any single ruthless game
Soldiers fall around me, I fall to my knees just with the guilt of surviving,
But I know I must continue
This is not coldblooded bravery, this is desperation to succeed,
and for that I must continue this awful deed.

And there the soldier is found, for the freedom we all once bound, they took his life for you and me, just to be buried beneath the blossom tree.

And every single soldier that has fallen, every single life lost, soul lost, hero lost.
Every one is a flag of truce.
A poppy in a dead land.

Their blood is like the tears of War.

Lest We Forget.

Miranda J.
