bryan wallace - The Raindrop

I blow in from the sea
From far across the deep blue yonder.
Together with all my family
Locked together in a grey-white form,
Like puffs of smoke against the pale blue sky.

We disembark as we cross dry land,
Our voyage almost over.
Separate when we meet cold mountain air
Take one final backward glance at the clouds,
Our parents that begat us. Before falling.

Falling, falling, I am falling
Caught in the breeze
Strike against a window pane.
A brief moment to take a glance
At the life of this strange creature called mankind.

How they moan, Oh! how they moan!
My coat's wet through and I can't cut the lawn.
Oh! how they moan - yet without me
They'd starve and dehydrate -
Return to the dust of the earth.

Falling, falling, I am falling
Running down the glass,
Drip on the woodwork of the frame beneath.
Could do with a lick of paint - lazy these humans!
Dropping to the windowsill before the journey to the ground.

Falling, falling, I am falling
Striking the concrete gulley on the ground.
Running along the gutter,
Dropping through the grating of the storm drain,
Creeping slowly through the water course.

Seeping slowly through the earth and soil,
Re-appearing in the streams, burns and rivers.
Thundering down the hillside, eroding through rocks and stones,
Meandering slowly on the flatland, depositing silt as I go.
Exiting to the briny ocean once again.
And I blow in from the sea..

bryan wallace

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-raindrop-4/
