It's not as easy to fall out of love <br />as it is to fall in. <br />It comes on easily with a passion, <br />quickly does it begin. <br />It takes right over and consumes you <br />and does not let you rest. <br />It becomes your minute-by-minute thought. <br />It's nothing like you would have guessed. <br /> <br />Now when it happens late in life <br />you count your empty years. <br />You can't imagine how you went so long <br />with so many dried up tears. <br />But fate has a way of catching you <br />and turning you upside down. <br />And there's not a thing you can do about it <br />except stand your ground. <br /> <br />Can you deny it's happened and close your heart <br />and watch it drift away? <br />I think that's the hardest thing to do, <br />like a scene from a nightmare play. <br />No, I think you grasp it and hold it <br />and treat it tenderly. <br />And praise God for gifting it to you <br />and treasure it silently.<br /><br />Edwina Reizer<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/fateful-love/
