It seems but just yesterday,
Playing as a kid, those carefree days,
Oblivious, to the world, and its cruel ways.
Today, it's a different day.
The same sun, and the same wind,
I am not the same.
Could I feel, like I felt, eons ago?
Can I smile, like I did?
And sorrows forgo?
Back then, time flew on wings,
Now, struggle for existence,
Sets in, daily.
A fight against odds, a race against time,
Steals the smile; corrupts innocence,
So gently and firmly;
I do not have a chance to fight back.
But then I live on,
To fight another day;
The facade shows no signs of grey;
In the dark depths; helplessness,
A losing battle, against the mind;
The heart wins over,
Returning to innocence.

Shruti Goswami

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/nostalgic-9/
