I never really liked the mirror, <br />what it showed to me, <br />for, in the mirror, all I saw <br />is all I'm meant to be. <br />It never seems to raise my spirits <br />with a cheerful tone, <br />for every time I am reminded <br />that I am alone. <br /> <br />The window never showed me something <br />that I can attain <br />and all the people shown to me <br />where shown to me in vain. <br />I never found a hand to touch <br />that also was in reach. <br />I never got to practice the love <br />that I loved to preach. <br /> <br />I never really found the ground <br />that I would need to pray, <br />and if I did <br />I surely wouldn't know just what to say. <br />Instead, I never gave a knee <br />so much as gave a fist <br />and a dropp of blood for every tear <br />I gave for love I'd missed. <br /> <br />I never looked up to the sky <br />to see what it could bring <br />and never did I listen <br />for the joy that life can sing. <br />I always hoped to know the lover <br />that I'd hoped to find <br />and I never found the love <br />I knew would let my search unwind.<br /><br />Andy Barrette<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/never-have-i-ever/
