Heavy rain and strong winds have struck central Italy causing severe flooding in parts of Rome and surrounding areas.<br /><br />Roads were closed as torrents of water rushed along streets and down subways.<br /><br />With more rain forecast in the coming days several regions including Umbria, Campania and the island of Sardinia are on storm alert.
