The blissful thoughts of love I have for you, <br />By the gleaming glint in your glowing eyes made true— <br />Those cosmic colors, buried in the depths, <br />The sparkle of stars atop those golden steps <br />Align with the myriad hues of evening skies, <br />Bright orange, ruby red, a blue that tries <br />To capture all the moods of infant cries. <br /> <br />Wild storms of passion, fear, delight, <br />A night whose purple wings unfold, take flight— <br />The veiny limbs and scaly skins of time, <br />A shining form, pulsating, slick with slime, <br />That slithers through the sleek and seldom seen <br />Underside of life, those moldy green <br />Corridors where no one dares to clean. <br /> <br />What lavish palaces take my withered soul, <br />Their courtyards calm, beyond the hand’s control— <br />Rose petals scattered far across the grounds, <br />Mixed with gentle music, the echoing sounds <br />Of laughter, eerie noises, and what seems <br />To be the groans of pain and lonely screams <br />Made by all the melodies of dreams. <br /> <br />O father, help us, save us from the cold, <br />Don’t leave us here to die and rot and mold— <br />O mother, keep us safe and give us health, <br />And with a little cleverness and stealth <br />Guide us through these obstacles, this maze, <br />The folly and the wisdom of our ways, <br />The labors and burdens of these, our dwindling days.<br /><br />Joshua Dinkin<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-mind-s-path/
