Her beauty was second to none <br /> like a butterfly she flitted by <br /> as man with a net did chase <br /> hoping to capture her heart. <br /> <br /> How she teased <br /> she bought men to their knees <br /> her heart of ice <br /> none could thaw. <br /> <br /> She hid behind the tallest walls <br /> none could tear them down <br /> many tried but failed <br /> her heart of stone, imprisoned, alone. <br /> <br /> How she longed for love <br /> for someone to love who she was <br /> but barriers were high <br /> she needed much more than lustful eyes. <br /> <br /> No one took the time to know her <br /> men showered her with gifts <br /> trying to bribe her affections <br /> hoping for a kiss. <br /> <br /> One day her heart of stone did break <br /> tears she cried from frozen eyes <br /> her heart of ice dissolved <br /> an overwhelming feeling suddenly took control. <br /> <br /> She sat looking out to sea <br /> her tears washed away with the tide <br /> a man sat down at her side <br /> he asked her why do you cry. <br /> <br /> He took her hand in his <br /> and wiped the tears from her eyes <br /> his gentle touch, his concern, <br /> reached to her soul, much to her surprise. <br /> <br /> She looked at him and smiled <br /> through bloodshot tear filled eyes <br /> and realized he was blind <br /> he was genuinely caring, genuinely kind. <br /> <br /> She watched the sun slowly fade from sight <br /> and made a wish on a star so bright <br /> the moon smiled approval with a cheesy grin <br /> and they sat holding hands 'till the tide came in.<br /><br />Maria Shaw<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/heart-of-ice-6/
