Isam Hussain - Oh to be Divine

2014-06-17 5 Dailymotion

The servant aspired to be like his master,
he sought to please and serve him better
hoping one day he would barter
his service for the status of his master.

Such a dream began in the distant past
more than four millennia ago, to be exact,
a myth was composed to show that one man
was deemed worthy by the gods to be divine.

Utnapishtim received the crown of immortality
and mankind discovered life's mystery:
mortals needn't be content with their mortality.
Utnapishtim showed the way to achieve divinity.

In every age men made the same claim,
Kings and prophets thought the same.
Immortality remained the preserve of the few
until Moses came and offered it to every Jew.

The idea trickled down to every nation,
and religions were built upon this notion.
Humanity was caught up in religious mania
all because of a myth from Mesopotamia.

Isam Hussain

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/oh-to-be-divine/
