There is something in the heart abiding: <br />it longs to go back to the past <br />to put right the wrong deed, <br />to retract the hurtful word, <br />to relive the sweet moment. <br /> <br />There is something in the heart abiding: <br />it longs to be near loved ones when far, <br />wishes for the happy moment to last forever, <br />clings desperately to those who must depart <br />as Death snatches them from our midst. <br /> <br />Time, alas, denies us our longings, <br />it marches on heedless of our wishes, <br />acts as though it is master of our destiny, <br />keeps us tethered to the present <br />free only to roam within a boundary. <br /> <br />In fact, that something in the heart abiding <br />is unbounded, free from Time’s constraints: <br />it regrets and repents, <br />forgives and forgets, <br />reaches out to the tree of the past <br />and plucks the fruit of that sweet moment <br />to re-live it in the present. <br />That something in the heart abiding is love.<br /><br />Isam Hussain<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/something-in-the-heart-abiding/
