now her hearts empty <br />and her mind’s closed <br />and every time she breathes <br />she feels a little more alone <br /> <br />she’s clinging on for dear life <br />hold to that iron rod <br />because she can’t help but wonder <br />what if there really IS a God? <br /> <br />it’s hard to fill a hollow heart <br />with words read from a book <br />how do you open a locked-up mind <br />with their “proof” everywhere you look? <br /> <br />but then there is that feeling <br />that what-if, that maybe, that hope <br />and if He’s there, that would explain <br />how she’s been able to cope <br /> <br />so it’s painful and it’s dificult <br />and she hasn’t a clue how to begin <br />but she’s trying and she’s working <br />to never be where she is again <br /> <br />and maybe her heart will fill <br />and maybe her mind will open <br />and maybe just that one breath <br />will be what keeps me hoping<br /><br />Allyssa Barker<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/evergreen-trees/
