I was sitting in my secound grade classroom,
Haveing our reading class.
A teacher rushed in, and I knew:
Something was wrong.
My teacher went white, and tried not to cry.
The intercom came on, and we heard the news.
Two planes hit the twin towers, and people are dieing.

As I was going home that day, it all seemed surreal.
In all my nine years, I've never felt so much pain.
All around me, the grownups were so upset,
I could feel their pain.
When I got home, we all gathered around the tv at grandma's.
And what I saw I'll never forget.
My aunt, mother and grandmother gasping, everyone crying,
as we watched the replay of the planes hitting,
The buildings collapsing,
And the desprate people, callling for help.......

It's been ten years now,
The memories still fresh.
I wasn't there,
I knew none that passed,
I did not know their names,
But I felt, and still do.
I still cry. I'm crying now.

As a nation, we mourn,
As a nation we'll fight.
As a nation bound by tragities,
We shall remember the past,
As we go to the future.

So on 9/11, remember those people
Who sat at a table with their family
Just the night before,
But also rememeber,
They are home with God.

Live life to the fullest,
Be all that you can be.
Be the loveing daughter, son, mother, or father,
Because, after all,
They might not see you again.

Love alot,
Fight little,
Be brave, proud and true.

Remember, God and I love you.

God Bless America!

Melanie Weeks

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/memories-a-9-11-story/
