The way of the warrior <br />Steeped in conflict <br />Is a lonesome one indeed. <br />Involved in killing <br />And mortal combat, <br />He still must feel a need. <br />There’s a need in <br />Most of humanity <br />To want to live in peace <br />As they pray and plead with their God <br />To make war surcease. <br /> <br />But the warrior’s taught <br />Right from the start <br />That in order to succeed <br />He must forget the heart. <br />They’re contentious and <br />They forge ahead, <br />Looking past the fields of red. <br />Seeing only the valor <br />Of the act <br />Never understanding the full impact <br />Of what a warrior is. <br /> <br />The way of the true warriors <br />Are ones who live in peace. <br />They live in harmony, <br />Avoiding conflict <br />And never try to feast <br />On the spoils of war <br />Or what it stands for. <br />They’ve found a better way. <br />They wage their wars <br />On poverty, on ignorance and greed <br /> <br />On bigotry and inequity <br />And they do feel the need. <br />They live in peace and increase <br />Love instead of hate. <br />This is the way of the warrior <br />Whose courage tells a story <br />Of what it’s like to battle <br />For peace, not for glory.<br /><br />Edwina Reizer<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-way-of-the-warrior/
