Her tribe far from here north as the crow flies <br />The little black girl with the chestnut brown eyes <br />Her shoulder length hair dark as feather of crow <br />And there is great warmth in her cheery hello. <br /> <br />Her people were here long before others came <br />And for this Land they had a different name <br />And they were known to be environmentally aware <br />And of this great Country they did take good care. <br /> <br />Her people invented the boomerang and didgeridoo <br />And with their dogs through the scrub hunted the roo <br />And related their stories in song and in rhyme <br />The stories that their dads told them of the Dreamtime. <br /> <br />The little black girl has a proud history <br />Her race belong to this Land of the southern sea <br />That they are the first people is never in doubt <br />And the very first humans to venture far south. <br /> <br />Her people have been here for thousands of years <br />And their dispossession a reason for tears <br />And the little black girl with a smile on her face <br />Belongs to her Country's Aboriginal race.<br /><br />Francis Duggan<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-little-black-girl/
